一、other/the other/others/another用法辨析

1.other的基本用法pron. 另外一个；adj. 其他的，另外的。

作形容词时，若是后跟复数名词，other+复数名词=others；也可以接可数名词单数；other又可接不可数名词。例如：other people=others，other information 别的/其它新闻。

the other的基本用法:.若other为代词，the other指两者中的另一个，常和one呼应着用。即常用结构：one……the other（一个……另一个……）

若other为形容词。the other 指其它的……,其后可接可数名词复数和单数。

the other+复数名词=the others,指一个范围中余下的全部。例如：

the other people=the others

the other day前几天的某一天，

I had a long conversation with her the other day.

前几天我与她作了一次长谈。

I rang her the other day and she said she'd like to come round

我前几天给她打电话，她说想过来玩。

The other one was much too expensive.

另一个太贵了。

We just missed a car coming the other way.

others,只能是代词other的复数，所以，是代词属性和用法。可以受some,any,all的修饰。泛指“剩下的人或物”。如果前面的人（物）是确定的数目，则后面一部分用the others;如前面的人（物）是不确定的数目，则后面一部分用others。

If we take the lead in this, others may follow.

如果排除一个不确定的数量，剩下的就用others，如上面的some students, some就是一个不确定的数量，所以剩下的数量也就不确定了，于是就用others来泛指。如果排除一个确定的数量，剩下的就应该用the others来特指。如：

Five students are dancing, the others are singing. 有五个学生在跳舞，其他的在唱歌。

本句中排除的学生是5个，这是一个确定的数量，于是后面也就用the others 来特指。当然，the others 也可以写成the other students.

others中有两个作用：复数和名词。所以others=other+ 可数名词复数，others不能用作定语。其含义为：表示别的，其余某些东西或人们”，但没有明确的范围。the others的基本用法the others中the表特指，others相当于复数名词，因此the others只能作代词，则表示具体范围中的别的，其余某些东西或人们。例如：There are forty students in the class ， Fifteen are girls,the others are boys.( the others = the other students）

2.another的基本用法

（1）. another=an +other,既可以作代词，也可以作形容词。

（2）.another作代词时，指三者以上中的另一个。

（3）.another作形容词时，是指在原有的(三个或三个以上）中的“一个”或“另外一个）”。another 名词实际意义为：an other+名词。

（4）. another+数词表示 "又，再"。如：

another two apples（=two more apples）.

区分another，other与else.简单来说，other可作形容词或代词，做形容词时，意思是“别的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”；another=an other，既可作形容词，也可作代词，只能用于三个或更多的人或物，泛指同类事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一个”，只能代替或修饰单数可数名词；else 一般修饰疑问词和不定代词，而且必须后置。两个“互相”：one another表示三者或以上中的互相，each other两者之间的互相，但在现代英语中已通用。一个……另一个的表达：在两者中，用one……the other结构；在三者或三者以上中，用one……another结构。一些……,另一些的表达：some... others结构中，others指（没有明确范围）；具体几个 ... the others结构中，the others指（有明确范围，指具体范围中的别的，其余某些东西或人们。）

①Some students like English and other students (others) like physics.

【解析】other表示“别的”，“另外的”，只能与复数名词连用。但other前有冠词the即可与单数名词连用。如：
I have two pens. One is blue. The other (pen) is black.
我有两枝钢笔。一支是蓝色的，另一支是黑色的。
②John did better than all the other players in the sport.
在那项运动中John比所有别的运动员都出色。
【解析】the other加复数名词指的是一定范围内“所有其余的人或事物”，是特指；而other加复数名词却是没有明确范围的“另外的人或事物”。如：
We must think more of other comrades.
我们必须多想想别的同志。
③ This shirt is too large for me. Please show me another.
这件衬衫我穿太大。请另外拿一件我看看。（一般商店不会只有两件衬衫）
【解析】another, the other作代词的用法。The other表示“两个数量中的另一个”，表示特指，总数为俩；another表示“总数为三个以上中任意的另一个”，表示泛指。如：
His parents both work in a hospital. One is a doctor and the other is a nurse.

other 可以做形容词，表示其他的，比如other people其他的人。
也可以做代词，但是做代词时一般不以原形出现，一般用以"the other"或者以复数形式“others”出现。
others
和some对比使用时, 是“有些”的意思而不是做“其他”讲, 如:Some cleaned the windows, others mopped the floor. 有的擦窗户, 有的擦地板。
the others
是“其余的”意思, 表示在一个范围内的其他全部, 如: This dictionary is better than the others. 这本字典比别[其余]的好。

another 指另一个，没有固定的范围。比如：this dress is dirty,please change another one for me.这件裙子脏了，再给我换一件吧。

either指的两者中哪个都可以。如：which dress do you want,the yellow one or the blue one? 你想要哪件裙子，黄色的还是蓝色的？
回答可以是either is ok.哪件都可以。

一、含义不同

1、other的含义是：另外；其他；(指两个人或事物中的第二个)那个，另一个；其余的，另外的

例句：

二、用法不同

1、other翻译成“其他的”不能做主语或者宾语，必须要加一个名词复数才可以。

2、the other 可以做代词或者形容词。能做主语或者宾语。

3、others 翻译成其他人（物），是代词，可以直接做主语或者宾语。

4、the others 相当于the other的复数形式，可以做能做主语或者宾语。

5、another的用法：做代词，直接做主语或者宾语；做形容词，another+一个单数名词，做主语或者宾语。

三、侧重点不同

1、other其他的，不是指剩下部分的全部， 相当于other+复数名词。

2、the other特制在一定范围内的其余所有的人或物。

3、others 所指的其他人并非其他所有的人，指其他部分的全部，相当于other+复数名词。

4、the others 其余的，特指某一范围内的其他全部相当于the other的复数形式。

5、another 指三者或三者以上的人或物。

一、知识解析

Other

other可作形容词或代词，作形容词时表示“别的，其他的”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”,不能单独使用，后面必须接可数名词的复数形式。

Eg:

He studies English, math and some other subjects.

译：他学习英语、数学和一些别的科目。

上句话中，尽管前面没有some，但在other后面也必须用复数形式。

Others

others是other的复数形式，它就相当于“other+名词复数”，泛指“别人；另外几个；其余的”。因此它的后面不能再接名词。

others在句中可作主语、宾语。

如果句中前面出现了some，后面通常就会用others，即构成“Some...others...”的固定结构，这时就可以翻译成“有的…有的…；一些…另一些/其他的…”。

Eg:

①Some students are dancing, others are singing.

译：一些学生在跳舞，其他的在唱歌。（学生们有的在跳舞，有的在唱歌。）

上句中的others在这里就相当于other students.

②Tom likes helping others.

译：汤姆喜欢帮助别人。

The other

1） the other指两个人或物中的一个时，只能用the other，不能用another ，此时的other作代词。

Eg:

He has two daughters. One is a nurse,the other is a worker.

译：他有两个女儿，一个是护士，另一个是工人。

2）the other后可加单数名词，也可加复数名词，此时的other作形容词。

Eg:

①On the other side of the street, there is a tall tree.

译：在街道的另一边，有一棵大树。

②Mary is much taller than the other girls.

译：玛丽比其他的女孩高得多。

Another

1） another表示三者及以上中的“再一，另一”个，后接单数名词。

既可作形容词，也可作代词，只能用于三个或更多的人或物，泛指同类事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一个”，只能代替或修饰单数可数名词。

这个单词本质上其实是“an other”这两个单词的连写，所以它的前面不能再写上冠词an.

Eg:

①I don't like this one. Please show me another.

译：我不喜欢这一个，请给我看看另一个。

②I have three daughters. One is a nurse, another is a teacher and another is a worker.

译：我有三个女儿。一个是护士，另一个是教师，还有一个是工人。

2） another后还可以接“数词+名词复数”，这时是把“数词＋名词复数作为一个整体来看待的。

Eg:

She had to stay here for another ten days.

译：她只好又在这儿待了十天。

上句的意思暗含她原来就在这里已经住了若干天了，现在不得不又住一个十天。
