一、except, besides, except for和apart from的区别

知识点讲解

Except

1) 是排除在外的“除了”，可以翻译成汉语“只有...没....，其他人都...”

2) 从构词法上来说，ex是词根，“向外”的意思。cept是词根“拿、取”的意思。这样，except就是拿到外面去，不在一起的意思。

3) 英文的解释是not included，不包含在内，也能帮助理解。

4) I like all sports except football. 除足球外，我喜欢所有的运动。我只有足球不喜欢，其他都喜欢。

Besides

1) 是包含在内的“除了”，可以翻译成汉语“既...又...”，“不但...而且...”。

2) 从构词法上来说，besides，是由两个部分组成。Be和side，即挨在边上。另外也可以联想besides后的s是second的意思，有第一，才能有第二，因此是包含在内的意向。

3) 英语的解释是in addition to，表示增加的意思，也能帮助理解。

4) What other sports do you like besides football? 我知道你喜欢足球，除了足球，你还喜欢什么球？

Except for

也表示“除…以外”，普遍的解释是这样的：“指对某种基本情况进行具体的细节方面的修正”。这个解释不是不对，但是略微难以理解，下面我从几个角度展开解释一下：

1）最核心的是翻译成汉语时，我们要翻译成：“美中不足”、“唯一遗憾”、“如果不考虑”，就能理解90%了。

2）except for前后承接的两个名词，从逻辑关系上来说，不属于同一类事物。

比如：All the buildings are excellent except this one. 这句话的意思是只有这栋大楼不好，其他所有大楼都相当好！其中所有大楼和这栋大楼是同一类事物。

对比：All the buildings are excellent except for their location. 要是不考虑这些大楼的位置，这些大楼还真不错。或者，美中不足的是这些大楼的位置有点不好。其中，大楼和位置不是一类事物。大楼和大楼是同一类事物，这个位置和其他位置是同一类事物。

3）except for前面的名词如果是表示“全部”类的代词，如all, everything, nothing的时候，有时except for和except可以互换。这个“有时”是指except for前后的名词一个是整体，一个是个体，这时候可以互换。但这个比较难理解，幸好考试也不太考这类的。

l You can find me in my office every day except for Sunday. 这句话强调的是“要是不算周日，我天天都能来”，强调每天都能过来，天数多，常在。侧重所有日子。

l You can find me in my office every day except Sunday.这句话强调的是“只要不是周日，其他日子都行”，强调的是其他日子。侧重其他日子。

l I can answer all the questions except for the first one. 这句话强调的是“要是不算第一个问题的话，我都能回答上来”，强调自己知道得多厉害，就只有一点小瑕疵，即第一个问题回答不上。侧重所有问题。

4）其他琐碎地点：except for可以位于句首，except不可以；except for后面要加名词，except后可以加既可以加名词，此外还可以加很多东西，比如介词短语，从句等。

Apart from

二、except for，apart from和besides的区别

表示“除了…以外”的介词 besides, except, except for, but, apart from 等.
1) besides 表示“除 … 以外,（还,也）”,相当于 in addition to. 例如:
Besides English, they also study math, physics and chemistry
除了英语以外,他们还学习数学,物理和化学.
注意: 不要将besides和beside 混淆.beside是“在…旁边”的意思.

2) except 表示“除…外,（其余都）…”,常与all,every,no, none, nothing 等含有整体肯定或否定意义的词连用.
except 是英语中少数用法最为活跃的介词之一, 其后除了可跟名（代）词外, 还可跟另一介词短语、动词不定式短语或 that 引导的从句 .例如:
He answered all the questions except the last one.
除了最后一个问题外,所有的问题他都回答了.
I went nowhere except to the library. 除了图书馆以外,我哪儿都没有去.
试比较:
We all went except him. 除了他（没去）以外,我们都去了.
Three others also went besides him. 除了他（去了）以外, 还去了三个人.

except for 也表示“除 … 以外”,但是和 except 不同的是: 与 except 连用的整体词和 except 所跟的词常常是同类的,是指整体除去一部份; 而与 except for 连用的整体词与 except for 所跟的词往往不是同类的,是指整体中除去 一个细节.例如:

三、apart from、except、beside的区别。

apart from、except、beside都可翻译为“除...之外”，但用法区别如下：

1、except for用来指所排除的人或食物不是整体的一部分 或者与整体不属于一类，而是整体的一个例外。

例如：Your composition is good except for a few spelling mistakes.

你的作文很不错除了有几处拼写错误。

except通常指排除的人或者食物是整体的一部分。或者与整体属于一类。后面需要加that 从句
例如：

He answered all the questions except the last one.

除了最后一个问题外，所有的问题他都回答了。

2、besides 表示“除 … 以外，（还，也）”，相当于 in addition to.

例如:

Besides English, they also study math, physics and chemistry

除了英语以外，他们还学习数学，物理和化学。

3、apart from 表示“除 …之外”。根据上、下文的不同，它既可用作 besides, 也可用作 except 和 except for。

例如:

(1)Apart from them, I had no one to talk to. （= except）
